Artificial disc replacement surgery (ADR) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that helps eliminate pain and preserve or restore motion in the spine. ADR can mitigate pain, discomfort and loss of mobility caused by a degenerative disc, but not everyone is a candidate for this spinal surgery. Before you pursue ADR, ask your doctor about more conservative treatments first, such as: medication, epidurals, physical therapy, hot/cold therapies or other modalities. Your age, medical history, and lifestyle may play a role in whether or not ADR is the right treatment for you.
